WELD-ON-3: Precision Cement for Thermoplastic Bonding
WELD-ON-3 is a versatile, water-thin cement designed for fast and reliable bonding of various thermoplastic materials. This non-flammable adhesive works by softening the surfaces to be joined, allowing them to fuse seamlessly as the solvent evaporates. The initial bond forms in just a few minutes, and strength increases rapidly, with substantial bonding achieved within hours. While highly effective, this cement can sometimes cause a white mark known as blushing, particularly in humid conditions. For applications requiring greater blush resistance and longer working time, consider using WELD-ON-4.
Bonding Recommendations
WELD-ON is widely used in sign fabrication, where it excels in creating strong butt joints using the soak method, making it ideal for attaching letters to acrylic panels. Not reccommended for mirrored acrylic. It is also recommended for bonding butyrate trim-capping to acrylics. Beyond signage, this cement is popular in the POP (point-of-purchase) industry, particularly for display fabrication, using the capillary method for precision application.
Substrate Recommendations
WELD-ON is specifically formulated for bonding acrylic (poly-methyl methacrylate) to itself, but it also forms strong bonds with other thermoplastics such as polystyrene, CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate), PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol), and polycarbonate. It is not recommended for use with cross-linked acrylics, as it may not achieve the desired bond strength.
